vision.
Recently, I had one of the most impactful leadership conversations in the backseat of an Uber. This is not abnormal to me. I love random conversations that are about more than the weather. The types of conversations that you reference back to. I shared with the driver that I was excited about a new opportunity but hesitant because I didn't meet all the qualifications. Without hesitation, he told me the best decision he ever made was choosing to believe his story wasn't over.
He shared how he started as a photographer with nothing but vision, faith, and a willingness to take a chance on himself. Over time, that leap evolved into owning a photography studio, producing films, building a media platform (Caribbean Live TV), and creating opportunities he never imagined when he first started. But what stood out most wasn't his success — it was how often he referenced the importance of simply making the first jump.
One thing he said that stayed with me was, "Your perspective is the value." He explained that while equipment, titles, and credentials matter, what truly separates people is their vision, creativity, and willingness to trust their gifts before the world validates them. That mindset shifted how he saw himself — no longer just as a photographer, but as a creator, storyteller, and leader.
What made the conversation so powerful was the reminder that growth rarely happens when we feel fully prepared. Most of us wait until we meet every qualification, have every answer, or feel guaranteed success before we move. But leadership often requires action before certainty. Confidence is usually built after we take the step, not before.
Another quote that stayed with me was, "The people around you who believe in you are the ones who will give you the opportunity." So much of his journey came from relationships, alignment, and being willing to say yes before he fully knew how things would unfold.
By the end of the ride, I realized the conversation wasn't just about career transitions or entrepreneurship. It was about faith, identity, and trusting that there is more available to us than the version of life we currently see. Sometimes the biggest transformation starts with one decision: betting on yourself before anyone else does.
